Wizards |
The World of Wizards and the role they play in any game world is a very unique one indeed. In a fantasy scenario they would viewed by the common populace as aloof and disconnected from the world of ordinary folk. They are. As keepers of ancient arcane knowledge, seers of events not yet come to pass, scholars in fields not imagined in worlds where the sword makes law and the ploughman carries the burdens of his superiors. Wizards are, by their nature, a complex kind of intellect. No ordinary pursuit engages their senses, no common philosophy intrigues their ever questing minds. While many assume wizards deal only in magic, nothing could be further from the truth. From the onset their training takes them into varied fields of study, reading and writing (while not spectacular, it is not a common practice in a medi-evil world), Higher mathematics, ancient philosophies, meta-physics, archaeology, anthropology, ancient languages, biology, botany, and many other arts and sciences not common to their societies as a whole. They strive for a mental competence that places them head and shoulders above normal folk. In the meantime they tend to disregard the ordinary politics of the local lords and barons, for their own hierarchy within their own ranks. They are not above supporting a current regime so long as it coincides with their personal agendas, these agendas being unique to each wizard. In the paragraphs to come will be many dissertations on the lives and pursuits of wizards and many examples of wizards as integral parts of the fantasy game world. We will also give examples of various degrees of wizardly expressions of might, based on the kinds of internal hierarchies they work within. So read on and learn of these arcane ways and perhaps gain new insight to the most complex of beings. |

Symposium
A small introduction to it and it's environs will be covered here. The symposium hall is a grand affair being oval in design, with a large vaulted ceiling. It is made from white quartzite marble, at the north end sits a large oval dais, on this a round platform rises about a foot or so. On this platform, an ornate stand made from crystal and ensorcelled gems. It is upon this stand that the Tome of Pylos, sits. It was Pylos, Arch-Enchanter of the, now long gone realm of Dolmas, who began the first Symposium. There are known to exist, five Arch-mages, these Arch-wizards preside over all proceedings here. Several Master Wizards, numerous journey mages, and quite a few apprentices, are also in attendance. Along the walls are the busts and crests of each Grand Magister since the beginning of the symposium more than 1200 years ago. The Current Grand Magister being the Arch-Transmuter Rolan, of the Isle of Mysts. For the most part these Arch-Wizards are rarely in attendance in the symposium hall. Instead, daily arguments on things arcane, are usually carried out by the wizards who regularly visit here to exchange spells, discuss the craft, or just visit with old friends. Along the east wall there is a bar with a buffet style table for use by the wizards and it is funded entirely by the donations of the Symposiums members. Various tables are placed around in the hall, and in the center of the south wall is placed an extra-dimensional space for the casting of magic (so as not to harm the facility). |
