Avernath |
| Here is a complete game world set in an elven community called "Avernath". It is not entirely fleshed out so that the Game master can fully integrate it into his/her particular campaign world. It is, however, set up so as to be completely playable as a stand alone campaign world if you so choose. Some basic rules here, it is meant to be used in an AD&D 2nd Edition game. It can be easily reconfigured to fit whatever medi-evil fantasy game you like, provided that you know how to do that. | ![]() |
The land of Avernath is an old one, from before the dawn of man, and reaching as far back as the beginning of time itself. It is a land of ancient magics and the closest ties to nature. Avernath sits along the shores of the inland sea, just inside the Kingdom of Braxony, near the border with the free states. Unlike the sylvan elves of Great Wood the High Elves of Avernath retain their sovereignty. Even during the time of the Dolmic Empire, the elves of Avernath kept their own land. While few outsiders live here there are a few halflings ,humans, and gnomes living amongst the elves. The elves here have no love for the dwarves, an enemy they have dealt with for centuries upon centuries. A large Dwarven stronghold exists to the north-east of Avernath in the Red Mountains. It is these dwarves the elves still fight to this day. The elves here have adopted a system of barter and little or no coin changes hands. The coin of Braxony is accepted though the elves feel that this can upset the balance of their culture, and so it is rarely accepted, save for it's value as a metal used in the crafting of fine art works, or magic items. The elves are governed by a council of the most powerful families, and each elf knows his/her place in society by his/her relationship to these families. The current ruling families each claim a direct lineage to the original children of Corellon, chief deity of the elves. The following is a listing of these families:
SilverLeaf; this family has ruled the council for the last 3000 years. This family numbers 1,500 elves.
EveningStar; the second largest family with 1,420 elves.
Laureth; third with 980 elves.
Rai'en; fourth with 830 elves.
NightWing; fifth with 600 elves.
DawnSeeker; sixth with 540 elves.
Gerain; seventh with 470 elves.
All lesser families are in one way or another inter-related to these families and so no representation is given them, except through whatever family they claim loyalty to. |
Avernath is more citadel then city and boasts some of the most dramatic architecture in the known realms. All buildings are made from a kind of leaf that is created by the elves and used for construction, intermixed with this are stone works made from a crystalline ceramic. Through out the city are gardens, parks, ponds, and canals that add to the mystique of Avernath. A few docks line the shore of the inland sea but very little sea-borne trade occurs here. |
